Overview & Highlights

Welcome to Taqueria La Chiapaneca, a hidden gem nestled in the bustling heart of Tulum Centro. Known for its vibrant atmosphere that perfectly captures the essence of Mexico, this taco restaurant specializes in traditional, mouth-watering fare, especially their famed al pastor tacos.

Step into a haven of flavors where the air is filled with the tantalizing aroma of fresh, grilled meats. As you settle in, you'll find the enticing sound of sizzling tacos emanating from the intimate kitchen, inspired by the street-side taquerias of Mexico. The vibrant but cozy dining area, complete with a charming courtyard, invites you to relax while you embark on a culinary journey that highlights the best of Mexican street food.

The star of the show here is undoubtedly the al pastor taco, featuring succulent, marinated pork slow-roasted on a vertical spit. Diners rave about the exquisite texture and depth of flavor, with pineapples adding a sweet twist that may surprise you, as one reviewer exclaimed, "I would ordinarily never eat pineapples with my chicken, but it was so scrumptious!" Whether you’re a taco purist or an adventurous foodie, their range of choices ensures there's something for everyone, including satisfying vegetarian options.

Bite into the warm, soft tortillas cradling richly seasoned meats and accompanied by house-made salsas that pack just the right amount of heat. The generous portions—like five delicious tacos for just 70 pesos—leave guests, as one patron put it, "amazingly full" yet yearning for more. Pair your feast with a refreshing Jamaica juice or indulge in a few 50 peso beers to unwind in the courtyard.

For those worried about a language barrier, fear not! The menu is available in both Spanish and English, ensuring that your experience here is as delightful as the food itself. Moreover, the friendly staff make it a priority to provide attentive service, enhancing every aspect of your visit. As one satisfied customer suggested, brush up on a few Spanish phrases for an authentic touch to your Tulum experience.

With rave reviews praising Taqueria La Chiapaneca as “the best tacos in Tulum” and an authentic local vibe, it’s clear that this place is not just about food; it’s about creating lasting memories through flavors that resonate. Be prepared to leave with not just a full belly but also a smile and a plan to return to this beloved taco haven!

5 delicious tacos for 70 pesos! Amazingly filling and very tasty for the best price I have found so far! I ate one in the pic. Ordinarily I would never eat pineapples with my chicken, but it was so scrumptious. I was full after eating 3 and continued eating the rest, because I couldn’t help it. Lol

Best tacos in Tulum! Amazing al Pastor and Carne de Res, highly recommended. At the moment the place has the wrong address since it’s still at their old location. It should be corrected.

Cool taco spot! They have vegetarian options for everything. We tried the al pastor tacos which were fantastic, and the vegetarian ones. Great prices for the tacos and very clean interior too!

Great authentic place! This place wasn’t touristy and definitely felt like a local neighborhood restaurant. The tacos were really good from the ones that we got. Also very inexpensive. I would definitely go back here again.

Really solid tacos, especially for Tulum. Stop by for a few beers (50 pesos each) and 4 al pastor tacos (20 pesos each) and hang out for a bit in their back courtyard. Staff is very friendly and attentive, but I do recommend looking up a few Spanish phrases to make your visit a little more seamless.

This restaurant is towards the end of the main road that goes through Tulum. This is a must go to spot for people who love Al pastor (pork) in any vessel! The flame spit in the front roasts the pork fresh. We ordered an Al pastor torta, pollo and asada salbutes, al pastor tacos, Al pastor tostadas, guacamole, and some Jamaica juice. The star of the show is the pork! While the chicken and beef were also good, we kept ordering more Al pastor in different forms and even ended up buying the pastor by the kilo to bring some back to our hotel! The green and red salsas have great flavor, with the red one having a great kick from the habanero peppers. There is also a small salad bar for you to top your meal with onions, cilantro, radishes, or cabbage. We are so happy we found this small little spot, and will be enjoying the 1 kg of pork we bought to go (which came with tortillas, salsa, and the fresh veggies).

I first discovered Taquería La Chiapaneca two years ago while staying in Tulum, and I was so excited to return in 2025. This place is absolutely fantastic! They’ve moved to a new location, which now has a beautiful inner yard where you can enjoy your food outdoors in a relaxed setting. The menu is available in both Spanish and English, so ordering is easy even if you don’t speak Spanish. They offer a great variety of beers, plus sodas and water, and the prices are very reasonable and affordable. I truly love this place and will definitely come back whenever I’m in Tulum. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for authentic tacos and a great atmosphere!
